The Damned, John Anson Ford Theatre, Hollywood, California, 21st October 1988

Great sounding audience recording (a little lacking on bass, but very clear otherwise) recorded shortly before the original line-up reunion dates of 1989. This is the Vanian, Scabies, Jugg, and Merrick incarnation of The Damned. Oh, and 'Cathouse' is a cover of the Danielle Dax song...

The Damned, Coventry Polytechnic, UK, 26th May 1985

Found this tape, which I bought a few years back in a job lot on ebay, a few days ago, and realised I had never listened to it. Turned out to be quite a good recording of the second date on the Phantasmagoria tour. And, I suspect, largely uncirculated. Generally, everything is very clear, with just the occasional briefly muffled moments.

The Damned, The Witchwood, Ashton under Lyne, Manchester, UK, 13th April 2000

This sounds as though it is a soundboard recording, but also as though it's from a tape several generations down the line. Hence it's not perfect, but is a very good recording. This came to me as mp3s and all the between-song chats have been split into separate tracks.

The Damned, The Academy, Birmingham, 30th April 2006

Quite a good-sounding audience-recorded show which originally had sound in the left-hand channel only, so I have duplicated the left-hand channel into the right-hand channel so it sounds correct, even though it's effectively a mono recording now.

The Rezillos, Edinburgh, 21st January 1977

A very rough recording, but uploaded for its rarity value, this one is really only for the dedicated Rezillos fan. It has been suggested that this was recorded at Tiffany's in Coventry on this date, but I doubt that The Rezillos were playing in England at this point in their career. The set is mostly covers, which was what they started out playing over a year earlier, though a couple of Rezillos classics are present. Hungry For Love would later be recorded and released as a single by Eugene and Fay's post-Rezillos outfit, The Revillos.

The Rezillos, Silver Thread, Paisley, Scotland, 26th October 1977

I suspect this is a soundboard recording, due to the lack of audience intrusion and the even levels of all the instruments during the songs, though the sound quality is merely average. But Rezillos boots are rare, so I though it worth hearing.

The Damned, The Greyhound, Croydon, London, UK, 14th January 1979

By this point, The Damned had the legal rights to the name again and this spirited performance includes several songs that were to appear on the classic 'Machine Gun Etiquette' album later in the year as well as a brief run through Deep Purple's 'Black Night'. The quality isn't great and has a slight crackling sound but it's another Damned show worth hearing for its rarity alone.

The Doomed (The Damned), Royal College of Art, 19th October 1978

This recording dates from the period after The Damned reformed in 1978, but before they had regained the legal rights to the name, and played some dates as The Doomed. The sound isn't as good as you'd expect from a soundboard recording, but, hey, the tape is over 30 years old... Anyway, it's well worth hearing for historical interest and rarity alone. The line up on this recording is Dave Vanian (vocals), Captain Sensible (guitar), Rat Scabies (drums) and Henry Badowski (bass).

Good quality audience recording. This came to me as mp3s, but the files have been split in slightly strange places, so that the next song will start before the end of the mp3 file. Still, if you listen to the recording as a whole, that won't matter a bit.

The Damned, The Odeon, Edinburgh, Scotland, Friday 13th November 1981

Recorded on the same day The Damned released the Friday The 13th EP, this is possibly the only occasion on which they played all four songs from that release at the same gig. Sound is OK, nothing special, but well worth a listen.

Sonic Youth, Brixton Academy, London, 14th December 1992

Awesome radio broadcast of Sonic Youth at arguably the height of their powers, touring the mighty 'Dirty' album.

The Ruts, Markthalle, Hamburg, 23rd January 1980

Good-sounding audience recording of The Ruts in Germany. Almost certainly not the full show, this sounds as though it was originally a vinyl LP bootleg. Six months after this, Malcolm Owen died, robbing punk of one of its most original voices.

Spear of Destiny, Milton Keynes Bowl, Milton Keynes, UK, 22nd June 1985

This was recorded at "The Longest Day" - a one-day event headlined by U2, which also featured REM, Ramones, Billy Bragg and The Faith Brothers. Not a bad recording by any means, though the sound is unbalanced on the first six tracks (which were side one of the tape). It's evenly balanced on the last four.

The Damned, Nottingham Rock City, 23rd December 1985

This is an audience recording from a tape I bought on Lincoln Market a few days after seeing The Damned at this gig on their short Christmas tour in 1985. Sound quality is slightly 'muddy' but generally OK - I've heard (and bought) much worse! Notable for an early airing of Eloise, which was released in the Spring of 1986.
