It would appear that the good folk at MediaFire have taken objection to some of the files on my account, and have suspended the entire account without warning, despite previously sending me an email stating that half a dozen files "violate the MediaFire Terms of Service. Due to it being distributed from your account, it has been removed. Also, a Strike has been placed against your account and can lead to a termination of service."
They didn't give me the opportunity to address the files in question (Sex Pistols shows, in case you were wondering - how very punk rock to get them taken down...), nor any further warning that the account was in danger of suspension.
As there are far too many files to upload to another hosting service, it would appear that this is the end of Big Box of Tapes.
None of the music here was commercially-available, so no one was losing out financially, nor was anyone profiting from the files. Where's the real copyright issue in that? I could understand if this blog contained the latest release by Coldplay/Madonna/whoever, but it didn't. These files are for those people who have everything an artist has released, yet still want more. If bands don't like files like these being distributed, then why not release them commercially.
Thanks to everyone who's downloaded these shows, and posted their appreciation. I hope you've enjoyed the music. Take care.
Quality notes
Excellent:
Generally a soundboard or FM/digital radio recording
Very good:
The best quality audience recording, or a soundboard taken from a tape a few generations removed from the original
Good:
A very listenable audience recording
Average:
Typical audience recording on which there will be some audience intrusion etc
Poor:
Muffled, echoey, generally for the completist
The downloads are now password-protected (the password is: bigboxoftapes) and all include a text file with track-list and other information as in the posts.

Cheers for everything you have done Fat Reg, it's been a blast. My own blog got smashed when the FBI closed down Megaupload- while sharing is a buzz uploading is a pain & time consuming- I hope you continue to enjoy the music - I do
Thanks for everything, Good luck for the future

I got kicked in the nuts by Mediafire as well, so my heartfelt condolences to you.
As for quitting, that's understandable but I hope you won't.
I'm keeping on, though I have no intention of re-upping everything.
Good luck, whatever you do.

Can relate to what you say, but how about giving it a few days thought before pulling the plug? I've enjoyed your blog - thanks for your efforts, and best of luck in the future.

Great blog thanks for spending the time to upload so many great shows...seems like all the file sharing sites have suddenly gone to war with the people, what a shame :-(

MediaFire has become a great big pussy.
I am so sorry, but thank you for this blog and for sharing your amazing, uncopyrighted collection of concerts.
Ironically, this is the first time I was able to access the comments section.

Sorry to hear about that FR, I'm waiting for an email from the media fire man, cos it would seem that a lot of blogs have suffered, and one of the ironies is that like yer Big Box Of Tapes it's ones that are posting stuff thats not commercially available that get hit. All the best, and keep on keeping on in whatever yer doing.

Thanks for all the uploads Reg, I've downloaded a fair few beauties from here. Not many blogs where you can pick up mixing desk Dr & the Medics boots, from 1986!
All the best with whatever you decide to do with the blog.
